First Reconciliation |
![]() |
Young Catholics must celebrate First Reconciliation before they celebrate First Eucharist.
St. Matthew youngsters, who are in Grade 2, are prepared to celebrate First Reconciliation in a variety of ways:
- Families, who participate in Family Faith Formation (our parish C.C.D. program), are given home-study books and detailed instructions on how to use them. The parents' Family Guide and the child's book are both titled, Reconciliation: We Are Your People, the Sheep of Your Flock.
- Youngsters, who are enrolled in Catholic schools, are prepared through daily religion lessons at school. The parish offers the parents of these youngsters an opportunity to join in their preparation at home by using the home-study books identified above.
- Youngsters, whose parents home school them by using an approved Catholic Home Educators curriculum, are prepared through daily lessons in the faith. Parents of these youngsters may also request the home-study books provided by the parish as an additional enhancement of their child's preparation for First Reconciliation.
- Other St. Matthew youngsters are enrolled in C.C.D. at other parishes. They receive some preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation in those classes. It is strongly recommended, however, that parents of these youngsters request and use copies of the home-study books provided by St. Matthew Parish to ensure a full preparation for the sacrament.
Parents of a St. Matthew youngster in Grade 3 or beyond, who has not yet celebrated First Reconciliation, may contact the Parish Director of Faith Formation, 232-0880, to discuss a preparation process for their child.
